Where will the Bowtie Wetland Demonstration be? ¿Dónde estará la Demostración del Humedal de Bowtie?The Bowtie Wetland Demonstration is a 2.5 acre site on the 18-acre Bowtie Parcel located on the east bank of the LA River in Glassell Park. The location was formerly part of Southern Pacific Railroad’s Taylor Yard.
La Demostración del Humedal de Bowtie es un sitio de 2.5 acres en la Parcela de Bowtie de 18 acres ubicado en la orilla este del Río de LA en Glassell Park. La ubicacion anteriormente formaba parte de Taylor Yard de Southern Pacific Railroad.

Where will the Bowtie Wetland Demonstration be?The Bowtie Wetland Demonstration is a 2.5 acre site on the Bowtie Parcel located on the east bank of the LA River in Glassell Park. It is located on the Bowtie parcel, an 18 acre strip of land that was formerly part of Southern Pacific Railroad’s Taylor Yard.

Celebrating Transformation on the LA River
In May 2023, CalArts & TNC held a public media arts showcase to unveil the collaborative projects to the community.
The event was hosted by CalCreative, a middle school next door to the Bowtie Wetland Demonstration that takes an arts-integrated approach to education, curricularly focusing on the LA River and indigenous land stewarship. CalCreative families and students were invited to join the festivities and learn about the Bowtie Wetland Demonstration.
The showcase featured presentations from TNC, CalCreative & CalArts, as well as a highlight of the event: A musical performance by the CalCreative second graders and Lazaro Arvizu, CalCreative’s Culture Bearer in Residence, who performed Arvizu’s song “Paayme” about water and the LA River.
En mayo de 2023, CalArts & TNC realizaron una exhibición pública de artes mediáticas para presentar los proyectos colaborativos a la comunidad.
El evento fue organizado por CalCreative, una escuela secundaria al lado de La Demostración del Humedal de Bowtie que adopta un enfoque educativo integrado en las artes, centrándose curricularmente en el río de LA y la administración de tierras indígenas. Se invitó a las familias y los estudiantes de CalCreative a unirse a las festividades y aprender sobre La Demostración del Humedal de Bowtie.
La exhibición contó con presentaciones de TNC, CalCreative y CalArts, así como lo más destacado del evento: una actuación musical de los estudiantes de segundo grado de CalCreative y Lázaro Arvizu, Portador de Cultura en Residencia de CalCreative, quien interpretó la canción de Arvizu “Paayme” sobre el agua y el Río de Los Angeles.
The showcase featured projected displays of interactive websites that attendees could explore, a community sticker mural & coloring posters, and looping animated video displays. The CalArts artists created educational & fun sticker sheets, pamphlets, postcards, and interactive booklets with games or coloring sheets for guests to take home.
Everyone was invited to enjoy Lupita’s tamales & refreshments while viewing the projects and drawing in activity booklets & coloring pages.
La presentación contó con pantallas proyectando sitios web interactivos que los participantes podían explorar, un mural con calcomanías de la comunidad y carteles para colorear, y pantallas de video animadas en bucle. Los artistas de CalArts crearon hojas de calcomanías, folletos, postales y folletos interactivos educativos y divertidos con juegos u hojas para colorear para que los invitados se lleven a casa.
Todos fueron invitados a disfrutar de los tamales de Lupita y refrigerios mientras veían los proyectos y dibujaban en los folletos de actividades y páginas para colorear.
