Teams of students conducted research and site visits, generated concepts and pitched projects to The Nature Conservancy leadership, producing a variety of multimedia art projects.  The class culminated in a public exhibition at CalCreative, and The Nature Conservancy will continue using the students’ work at eductional events and in virtual communications.  This year-long elective course was led by Melissa Ferrari (animation), with co-teachers Jacinto Astiazarán (live action documentary) in Fall 2022 and with Lorin Brown (graphic design) in Spring 2023. <img width="4032" height="3024" width_o="4032" height_o="3024" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/49c6119144e7cc1fc2f8383d9ae50840f6b03df4f13226ae66b1999b541554b4/IMG_2788-3.jpg" data-mid="181379344" border="0" data-scale="96" src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/49c6119144e7cc1fc2f8383d9ae50840f6b03df4f13226ae66b1999b541554b4/IMG_2788-3.jpg" /> Site Visit: Students visit Lewis MacAdams Riverfront Park  Visita al sitio: los estudiantes visitan el parque de Lewis MacAdams Riverfront About/Sobre The Nature Conservancy The Nature Conservancy (TNC), the leading global conservation organization, works around the world protecting ecologically important lands and waters for nature and people. TNC’s goals in Los Angeles are to treat stormwater using natural infrastructure, address urban challenges using nature-based solutions, and enhance biodiversity across the urban landscape. One key strategy for achieving these goals is to create a proof-of-concept multi-benefit stormwater capture demonstration project. TNC and their consultants are leading the design and implementation of the Bowtie Wetland Demonstration, in partnership with California State Parks.The Nature Conservancy (TNC), la principal organización mundial de conservación, trabaja en todo el mundo para proteger tierras y aguas ecológicamente importantes para la naturaleza y las personas. La historia, que sigue a un grupo de amigos emplumados que frecuentan un café ficticio ubicado en el lugar del proyecto, explora temas de migración, biodiversidad y comunidad. La película está ambientada en un futuro próximo, después de la finalización del proyecto, y celebra el nuevo entorno natural y floreciente gracias a los esfuerzos de limpieza del agua y mejora del hábitat del proyecto. Para acompañar la película, los artistas han creado una guía para el lector que presenta información sobre las aves, juegos, páginas para colorear y más. Puede descargar el folleto en el sitio del proyecto. The Bird Cafe project features a short animated film with live-action footage of the Bowtie Wetland Demonstration in Los Angeles. Following a group of feathered friends who frequent a fictional cafe located at the project site, the story explores themes of migration, biodiversity, and community. The film is set in the near future, after the completion of the project, and celebrates the newly flourishing natural environment thanks to the water-cleaning and habitat enhancement efforts of the project. To accompany the film, the artists have created a reader’s companion which features information about the birds, games, coloring pages, & more.  You can download the booklet on the project site. The Interconnected Bowtie project features an interactive educational website with digital animations of plants and stop motion puppet animations of animals that may call the Bowtie Wetland Demonstration home. This piece aims to educate viewers about the Wetland while highlighting the interconnectedness of the flora, fauna, water, and land. The artists created a supplementary educational printed pamphlet to accompany the website.
